This workshop will be held the Friday before the Nov 2nd OSTA (Oregon Science Teacher Association) conference in Eugene. The workshop aims to engage participants in the Nuclear Chemistry Unit in Patterns Chemistry. In the workshop, participants will examine the scope and sequence of activities in Unit 3, which address how elements are made inside of stars (HS-ESS1-3), various types of nuclear reactions (HS-PS1-8), and how decay can be used for radiometric dating (HS-ESS1-6). Additionally, participants will engage in data collection and a data discussion on half life to make data-informed predictions for the time required before a radioactive sample is considered safe.
Minimum registration of 5 teachers by Friday, October 25 is needed to run this workshop. If the workshop is canceled you will be notified on October 26. Teacher attendees will be paid 3 hours at $50/hour through the WRAP grant to attend this workshop. Registration is free
